Training & Career
Dr Venuthurupalli graduated from Andhra Medical College (MBBS with honours in social and preventative medicine) in 1986 and completed his specialisation in internal medicine and nephrology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India, in 1995. He worked in Oman and Singapore before moving to Australia in 2006. After completing his FRACP in 2008, he started as a senior consultant with Queensland Health, where he has worked for the past 20 years — formerly as Director of Renal Services for one of the largest regional hospitals in Southeast Queensland. He was conferred his PhD by the University of Queensland in 2019 and has been an Associate Professor with the UQ Faculty of Medicine since 2021.
Research & Leadership
Widely published in national and international journals, Dr Venuthurupalli previously co-chaired the Statewide Renal Clinical Network, served on the Queensland Clinical Networks Executive Committee, and contributes to the Advancing Kidney Care 2026 committee. He is the corresponding principal investigator for two of Queensland’s largest renal registries — the CKD.QLD Registry and the Queensland Kidney Biopsy Registry — and his awards include Researcher of the Year (2018, Darling Downs HHS) and the Senior Researcher Award (2025, West Moreton HHS).
Fellowships & Memberships
Member of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN), and a fellow of both the American Society of Nephrology (FASN) and the International Society of Nephrology (FISN).
Philosophy of Care
Alongside his work with Queensland Health, he runs a private practice across five North Brisbane clinics built on the principle of care closer to home. Having worked in the public system, he understands the gaps primary care physicians face in managing CKD patients, and sees long-term shared care between specialist and GP as mutually beneficial. He has always believed in affordable, equitable kidney care for all patients with kidney disease.
Padmaja Rao Venuthurupalli
Padmaja has been our practice manager for the past 10 years and is responsible for overseeing the administrative and operational aspects of the practice. She is your first point of contact for appointments, referrals and billing enquiries across all five clinics.

Call Now — 0426 490 054Check Your Kidney Risk in Two Minutes
Chronic kidney disease is usually silent in its early stages — most people have no symptoms until a large share of kidney function is already lost. Our risk calculator asks about your age, health history and a few optional measurements, then estimates your chance of developing moderate-to-severe chronic kidney disease over the next 1–10 years.
- Takes about two minutes
- Runs entirely in your browser
- Nothing is stored or sent to us
- Bring the result to your GP
What the calculator asks
- Your age, sex and ethnicity
- Smoking status and family history of kidney disease
- Diabetes, blood pressure treatment and related conditions
- Optionally: height, weight and a recent blood pressure reading
This is an educational estimate, not a diagnosis and not a substitute for testing. Only a blood and urine test can show how your kidneys are actually working — please discuss any result with your GP or with A/Prof Venuthurupalli.
Booking Your Appointment
Three simple steps — and our practice manager Padmaja will guide you through all of them over the phone if anything is unclear.
